Imagine

Imagine

Imagine there is sunshine.

Imagine it is love.

Imagine this power comes to us

from someplace up above.

Imagine there’s a planet

with life that all depends

on getting its own share of love

from birth until its end.

Imagine each small thing you see

reflects its little share.

Would anyone who walks the earth

and looks upon it dare

to say: “This is not beautiful?”

To say: “I rather find

that this is not quite genuine.

Please don’t think I’m unkind?”

Don’t you agree that such a one

is obviously blind?

Imagine there are creatures there

who have the power of sight.

Imagine they have hearts to help them

learn just what is right.

How thankful would such creatures be?

How thankful to the Light

for all the beauty they can see

which fills their hearts with love and glee?

Imagine there came darkness.

- that suddenly was gone

the thing that was the cause of joy.

Scared! Fearful! Everyone.

Imagine on a mountain top

some guy began to scream

“it’s back!”

“It’s coming back again! I swear I see a gleam.”

Imagine how all life would surge

discern it could go on.

Those who name things would consult

and call this great thing Dawn.

Light and love would spread around

for darkness would be beat

and hearts gone cold would beat again

and sadness would retreat

Imagine there were people,

(Although this is really mad)

who said: “this love is not the same.

it, actually, is bad.

The love that was here yesterday

was genuine and real.

So people, listen to us now

for this is how we feel:

some day the real love will return

and we will tell you when.

Until it does obey the law

and do not think again.

Imagine, (though it’s hard to do)

some others just said: ”No!

I don’t believe it’s come again

I don’t believe it so

for me it hasn’t come again.

for me there is no love.

Don’t talk to me of beauty

or sources up above

that send a force to bind all life!

This place is made for woe and strife.”

The funny thing about belief

is that it will come true.

Believe you’re fat and woe betide

your mirror says that you

my dear have put on weight.

That bum that yesterday looked great

Is now a body part to hate.

Or, “oh that nose is much too long”

Or “oh my muscles are not strong

Oh, why is everything so wrong?”

Imagine on this planet

time passes and each year

the sun that gives life all its love

in winter disappears.

Imagine how some folk would say

“You see I told you so.

Your gullible naivety

allowed your heart to grow

and now you see you’re left alone

Abandoned! Dumped! Without a home.”

“Love may have once existed

in the bygone days gone past

but now the time for reason’s here.

and logic says at last

we can get by without such things.”

And many people think that this rings true.

Do you?

Each morning has its dawning,

each year its own springtime.

Each time the light of love returns

its beauty is sublime,

uplifting, awe-inspiring.

transcending all belief

that such love can’t or won’t exist.

Its force you simply can’t resist

“Yes” and “But” I hear you say.

“If this is true, where is it pray?

More theory I just will not brook!”

My friend. You simply have to look.

My friend. You simply have to look.

You have to use your eyes.

You have to raise them from the clay

and look into the skies.

You have to look at everything

with heart that wants to share!

You have to look inside yourself

and feel somehow, allwhere

This universal power that feeds

all your wants and all your needs.

Imagine that this power would send

a teacher every now and then

to help us so we don’t forget

that love returns each day. And yet

each year will have its winter too.

But love is there to see us through.

And in springtime cold hard snow

Will melt and then new plants will grow.

Imagine as the years progress

this great power in his tenderness

reveals a message line by line

(With just a little at a time)

through his teachers, who well know

what we can deal with as we grow.

Imagine that this source of light

said: “Now it is time to unite.”

“Mankind now has come of age.

It’s time to turn a different page.

Love the earth and not your land.

It’s time for you to lend a hand

in moving forward history.”

Could this message be for me?

Now we’ve reached the story’s end.

What you decide now will depend

On whether you say ha ha ha!
